NOTES:
- We list software as being excluded as "due to NASED"
because at the time the software was submitted for approval, we did not have a software
ITA (Independent Test Authority). Effective Jan. 1997, Nichols Research in
Huntsville, Alabama, was fully approved as NASED's software ITA. Where the equipment
utilizes the software known as FIRMWARE and is machine resident, that firmware has been
tested by Wyle Labs to meet the specifications.
- Be sure to note the specific models which are NASED
qualified. Models which are not identical are not NASED qualified.
Also be sure to pay attention to the Comments above.
- NASED does not issue qualifications to vendors.
NASED issues qualifications to specific voting systems. Please share this
list and information with your jurisdictions. So even if one product receives a
"qualified" rating, do not assume the one being presented to you is the one
which was tested through NASED.
- Understand the differences in firmware (programmed
onto a chip which resides inside the unit) and software which may be contained on a diskette or
hard drive. Optional software, or optional features which may include such features as media
reporting packages, charts, graphs, regional or zip code vote analysis, etc., have not
necessarily been tested. So be sure to inquire of NASED whether those features were
approved or have not been tested. Additionally, some of the vendors give a name to the
software which means something different than it does to the ITA. Some firmware carries
the same name as optional software package with
add-on features; or, the
vote tabulation portion of the software carries the same name as the entire software package. Make
sure you know. in writing. from the vendor what has and has not been tested.
